1. Choose the grade: mid-oleic vs high-oleic
Sunflower oil is categorised by its oleic-acid content, and that number drives oxidative stability, fry life and cost. As a rule: if the oil meets sustained heat or ends up inside the finished product's shelf life, favour high-oleic; if thermal demands are lower and cost matters more, mid-oleic is usually the better value. 2. Match the grade to the application

3. Decide the delivery format
How you receive the oil matters as much as which oil you buy. Match the format to your storage, volume and receiving setup — getting it wrong means demurrage, extra handling, or oil you cannot unload.

4. Plan receiving and storage
Confirm what your site can receive before the first order. Store sunflower oil cool, dark and sealed; heat, air and light drive oxidation, and mid-oleic (higher linoleic) is slightly more sensitive than high-oleic. Manage stock to shelf life — typically around 12 months for a well-stored oil, confirmed per product.
5. Agree the specification
Agree an approved specification up front — the ranges each parameter must fall within for your process (oleic/linoleic profile, free fatty acids, peroxide value, and stability where relevant). Representative values orient you; the confirmed values live on the certificate of analysis.
6. Insist on a certificate of analysis — and read it
