How you receive bulk oil matters as much as which oil you buy. The right format depends on your volume, your storage, and how your plant is set up to receive - and getting it wrong means demurrage, extra handling, or oil you cannot unload.
Road tanker
A food-grade road tanker delivers a full load in one drop, pumped directly into your storage tanks. It is the workhorse format for plants with bulk storage and steady throughput - the lowest cost per unit once you are set up to receive it.
Railcar
For the highest volumes, a railcar moves far more oil per shipment than a tanker. It suits large plants with rail access and the tankage to take a full car. Planning and lead time matter more here, but the delivered cost is hard to beat at scale.
Tote / IBC
A tote (intermediate bulk container, typically around 1,000 litres) is palletised and moved with a forklift. It suits plants without bulk tankage, smaller or variable volumes, or a product that needs several different oils on hand. It is the most flexible format and the easiest to start with.
Flexitank
A flexitank is a large food-grade bladder fitted inside a standard shipping container, used to move bulk oil for export or over long distances. It bridges the gap between drummed product and a dedicated tanker for cross-border supply.
Choosing a format
- Bulk storage and steady demand: road tanker, or railcar at high volume.
- No bulk tankage, or variable needs: totes.
- Import or export over distance: flexitank.
